Visit Poligny and the Jura

Some ideas for discoveries in our region…

Located in the east of France in Franche-Comté, the Jura is a department made up of plains and a mountain range. Known for its exceptional natural sites, its listed towns of character and its vineyards, the Jura has never ceased to surprise you! There are many activities, whether it's swimming in a lake, walking forest or mountain trails or tasting the famous Jura dishes such as Comté...

Poligny is a central town in the Jura department. You don't need to walk around Poligny for long to appreciate the historical architectural density of the town centre: towers, private mansions, fountains, religious buildings... You can get a first glimpse of it by following the Tower trail, which comes with a small game booklet for children. You will find this information at Clos Grimont, upon your arrival.

In addition, from our establishment, we can quickly go to Arbois and its vineyards, to Château-Chalon and its village, visit waterfalls or caves and discover the heritage of Dole.

So what can you see and do in the Jura depending on the seasons? We will help you answer them.

WHAT CAN YOU SEE IN THE JURA?

Whether in summer, spring or autumn, the landscapes of the Jura change and bring unique atmospheres depending on the seasons.

Nature
LANDSCAPES AND WATERFALLS

Revermont vineyards set in secluded valleys, a popular lake region in summer with its Hérisson waterfalls, Haut-Jura with snow-capped mountains in winter… The panoramas follow one another and are not alike! During your stay, a visit to one of our remarkable natural sites is a must: caves, waterfalls, lakes, valleys, peat bogs or rivers… In the Jura, many natural sites are preserved and protected, by the Haut-Jura Regional Natural Park, the Natura 2000 zones or even the ""protected natural sites"" classifications.

Heritage
A RICH DEPARTMENT

Due to its rich and diverse history, the Jura has inherited monuments and buildings that are often unique, such as the large Saline de Salins-les-Bains coupled with the Saline Royale d'Arc-et-Senans (listed by UNESCO), the abbey of Baume-les-Messieurs, the collegiate church of Dole, the historic centres of Arbois, Poligny or Château-Chalon, the château of Arlay, etc. and museums with various themes: the Maison du Comté or the Musée du jouet, etc.

THE COUNT'S CIRCUIT

Poligny, capital of Comté. Did you know that Comté is the first cheese to have obtained a Controlled Designation of Origin (now Protected Designation of Origin)? You will be able to discover the incredible story of this cheese, emblematic of what makes the Jura strong: cooperation.

The first essential stop is of coursela Maison du Comté , a stone's throw from Clos Grimont. News! During school holidays, one and a half hour workshops are organized for children aged 4 to 12, by reservation.

Then schedule a visit early in the morning or late in the afternoon to Fort des Rousses , an hour's drive from Clos Grimont, to admire the century-old maturing cellars. Once there, we recommend climbing to the top of La Dôle , which is a sporty but accessible hike.

Also, don't miss visiting one of the region's fruit dairies . The one in Plasne, Les délices du Plateau ,5 minutes by car from Poligny, offers guided tours all year round, upon reservation.

And stock up before you leave at one of the four creameries on Place des Déportés, just a hundred metres from Clos Grimont!

Cycling
BICYCLE RIDE (ASSISTED OR NOT)
